Sonoma Mountain Railroad

My introduction to the Sonoma Mountain Railroad (SMRR) layout was during a work related trip, where I met with the owner/designer of the Sonoma Mountain Railroad. The Owner's plan was to model the Northwestern Pacific Railroad (NWP) in HO scale, depicting NWP's narrow gauge line beginning in Sausalito, California on the north side of the San Francisco Bay, traveling north to, and ending in Cazadero, California, the heart of the Sonoma County redwood forests.

The time period, the late 1800’s to early 1900’s.

At the time, I resided in Occidental, California, once a station stop along the NWP logging/vacation line. Structures from the NWP days still exist in Occidental. Redwood forests, although not the majestic old growth trees, still dominate the Occidental area.

SMRR layout construction began in 2005 and continues to this day.
